Common Name Pine fire fungus Fruiting Body Cushion shaped, upper surface smooth, with a waxy appearance, brown, chestnut brown to purple brown, margin white when young, underside attached to the substrate with root like hyphal cords Flesh Reddish brown, tough Smell Indistinct Taste Indistinct Season Summer to autumn Distribution Infrequent Habitat On conifer debris, especially fire sites Microscopic Features Spores fusiform, finely warty when mature, with aan appendage at each end (27-33) x (10-11.5) µm2 excluding appendages. Paraphyses cylindrical, septate, ends clavate, apices encrusted with an amorphous brown substance. Edibility Inedible
